Circulating Proangiogenic Cells

چکیده
Stem cell therapy could be a promising option for the treatment of vascular diseases. The finding of stem/progenitor cells in circulating blood and the vessel wall indicates that endogenous (adult) stem cells have the ability to repair endothelial cells, thereby restoring the integrity of the vessel and most importantly its function. However, embryonic stem cells, which are a population of undifferentiated cells that can develop into any type of cells in the body including endothelial and smooth muscle cells, occur as an another source for stem cell therapy. Finally, recent progress in somatic cell reprogramming (ie, induced pluripotent stem [iPS] cells), propelled the research field toward more attractive and promising heights. Overall, significant progress in stem cell research has been made recently, especially the mechanisms of stem cell activation, homing, and differentiation in vascular repair and remodeling. In this regard, many recent publications in ATVB have provided further insight into the functional role of stem/ progenitor cells in (1) rescuing ischemic tissues, (2) the stem cell–derived smooth muscle accumulation in neointima, and (3) the stem cell differentiation into vascular lineages. In the present article, we will highlight these recent publications within a brief context of the literature on vascular stem/ progenitor cells.

Extremely low frequency-pulsed electromagnetic fields affect proangiogenic-related gene expression in retinal pigment epithelial cells
Objective(s): It is known that extremely low frequency-pulsed electromagnetic fields (ELF-PEMF) influence multiple cellular and molecular processes. Retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells have a significant part in the emergence and pathophysiology of several ocular disorders, such as neovascularization. This study assessed the impact of ELF-PEMF on the proangiogenic features of RPE cells. Mate...

Tumor-mobilized bone marrow–derived CD11bþ myeloid cells promote tumor angiogenesis, but how and when these cells acquire proangiogenic properties is not fully elucidated. Here, we show that CD11bþ myelomonocytic cells develop proangiogenic properties during their differentiation from CD34þ hematopoietic progenitors and that placenta growth factor (PlGF) is critical in promoting this education....

متن کاملIntravenous Arginine Administration Promotes Proangiogenic Cells Mobilization and Attenuates Lung Injury in Mice with Polymicrobial Sepsis
This study investigated the influence of intravenous arginine (Arg) administration on alteration of circulating proangiogenic cells and remote lung injury in a model of polymicrobial sepsis. Mice were assigned to one normal control group (NC) and two sepsis groups that were induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). One of the sepsis groups was injected with saline (SS), whereas the other (S...

Key Points • AngiomiR-126 is secreted from circulating CD34 cells and acts as a signaling mechanism of pro-angiogenic effects on endothelial cells, which is impaired in diabetes. Several peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC)–derived cell populations can promote angiogenesis, and differences in CD34 or CD14 surface expression have been used to separate PBMC subpopulations in this respect. Ang...
متن کاملVEGF-Induced Adult Neovascularization: Recruitment, Retention, and Role of Accessory Cells
Adult neovascularization relies on the recruitment of circulating cells, but their angiogenic roles and recruitment mechanisms are unclear. We show that the endothelial growth factor VEGF is sufficient for organ homing of circulating mononuclear myeloid cells and is required for their perivascular positioning and retention. Recruited bone marrow-derived circulating cells (RBCCs) summoned by VEG...
